of the Wisconsin AFS
MEETING SCHEDULE
Joint meeting,
Wisconsin Chapters of
The Wildlife Society (TWS)
36th annual meeting
and
American Fisheries Society (AFS)
37th annual meeting
Wausau
Wisconsin
February 5-7, 2008
I invite you to attend the 37th annual meeting of
Wisconsin Chapter AFS. For 2008 we
are having a joint meeting with Wisconsin Chapter of The Wildlife Society.
The meeting festivities will include an appropriately-themed
raffle, fish and game hors d’ oeuvres, a selection of Wisconsin beverages and
a unique opportunity to interact with aquatic and terrestrial colleagues.
Conference Theme: Helping
science to persevere in a political and social world.
The Fisheries and Wildlife professions have no shortage of contentious issues:
chronic wasting disease; viral hemorrhagic septicemia; whitetail deer
populations; shoreland habitat protection; wolf management; runoff impacts on
streams. In the policy arena, science often seems to take a back seat to
political, economic and social considerations. In contrast, annual meetings of
professional societies like AFS and TWS are a place where the exchange of
scientific information is the focus, rather than an after-thought.
